Happy Saturday!
For today's DIY Super Saturday project I thought I'd share my technique for making what I like to call "Bubble Flower Hair Bows".
I saw a technique similar to this (only on a much larger scale) used to make wreaths. There are tons of things you can do with this "bubble flower" technique, but here is how I made a whole assortment of adorable hair bows!
Here's how I do it:
I went to Wal Mart and got a whole stack of adorable fabrics for SO CHEAP. I got 1/8yd of each kind, making each fabric only $0.62 each (did you see the one for $0.25? Boo ya).
1/8 yd is way more than you would need, but that's the smallest cut they would do.
Cut a small strip in your fabric. I did mine about 1-1.5in wide.
Cut off a square.
Glue opposite corners together in the middle to create an triangle-type shape (see 1st square below). I used a tiny drop of hot glue. Next, glue the other two corners to the middle also.
Use a square to create a "base" for your bubbles like so:
Keep making bubbles and gluing them onto the base however you'd like them. I made my bubbles on the bottom bigger (cut slightly bigger squares) and made them smaller as I got to the top.

I like to put cute beads or jewels in some of the gaps of my bubble flower.
...Like so.
Next, I go to my nifty ribbon organizer, pick out coordinating ribbon, and cover an alligator clip with it (you can find the clips at any hair supply store). You will want to do this so it's soft against baby's head.

Glue your adorable bubble flower to the clip,
...and there you have it!
(Sorry this pic is blurry, it was taken with my cellphone)
Adorbs, right?
Mix and match the colors with different headbands. I ordered a bunch of headbands from Hairbows Unlimited. They were the cheapest I could find and the shipping was fair enough.
I'm pretty much obsessed with these and make them ALL THE TIME. They are fun to make, so cute, and are different than what you typically see. They use very little fabric so you could make these with literal scraps you have lying around. Get creative and use this technique to make other things...but be sure to email me pictures so I can share it with everyone! (funcheaporfree@gmail.com).
Isn't it fun making things yourself, rather than paying top-dollar?
Yes sir, yes sir.
Have a great weekend!
