Saving While Re-Decorating

My little Camden is 3 and he loves pirates. When he graduated from his toddler bed he had two requests, he wanted a pirate room and he wanted bunk beds. We took our time looking for the best deals. My husband even considering building the bunk beds himself because they were so expensive. This is what we came up with.

We found this bed on KSL. Brand new these babys are $1,000+ the sellers were asking $500. My husband ended up walking away only paying $260! Not bad for two beds, a dresser, shelfs and a desk! Now the bedding...we looking long and hard for just the right bedding.

I had mentioned to my mom that we were looking for pirate bedding and she helped us on our search as well. (Remember to let other people know you are looking for a good deal, they might have connections or be able to find something for you.) While we were in Texas visiting my mom was at Kohls shopping and she happened to find these Paul Frank Skurvy Pirate bedding on clearance. They didn't have the right size so she came home and we looked them up and ordered them online. We got two comforters and a set of sheets for $40 and free shipping! Target sells the same bedding we found out but it would have been. $144.37 + tax and shipping.
The Mac we got for $400 a few years ago from my sister's work. Every time Apple came out with new software they sold all their old computers and get new ones. At the time we bought it they were easily worth $800+.

I found online this cute saying in vinyl letters but it was $30. We asked around and found out my mom's friend had a cricut machine and told us that we could use hers and just pay for whatever vinyl we used. So this only ended up being $8!

Of course every pirate room needs a treasure chest. All the ones we liked online were $50-$100+! My husband decided that he could make one for lots cheaper! After all the supplies this only cost about $15!

This Pirate Ship is $200+ new online right now. We bought it from my cousin who had outgrown it and it was just gathering dust in their attic. We gave him $20 for it. The shelf my husband made. We got the pre-painted wood for $2 from Ikea in their %50 off or more as is section. The shelf we were looking at there was $30.
Additional expenses: we had to get two twin size mattresses which we got from Costco for $150 each.

$645 (I didn't add in the computer because we didn't buy it for his room, we have had it for 3 years)
At full price we could have easily spent at least $1,655+
Can you believe that?!!!

So remember the F.A.C.T.S. when it comes to saving money and hopefully you can find great deals too!
