Saving Craving! Savings Tip: Keep those old sound books

I was at a thrift store the other day and made an absolute HAUL on toys and books. We all know that's my favorite place to buy them! My baby's 1st birthday is coming up so I was able to get a huge cart full of toys and books for about $20. I'm talking HUGE cart full. It was almost embarrassing. I'll post pictures of that later.

I had such success I encouraged my friend to go pick up toys and books for her son. It was a few weeks after Christmas and they must have gotten tons of donations over Christmas because I had never had such luck in the toy section before! She asked me to go with her to show her the tricks of buying used toys and books. While there I taught her a great tip that I will teach you!

Today's tips:
DON'T OVERLOOK SOUND BOOKS WITH DEAD BATTERIES!

One of my son's favorite books is a Tonka book that I got at the D.I for $0.50. It didn't work in the store, I assumed because the batteries were dead.
All you have to do is look on the back, or in the front cover of the book. There are instructions as to what batteries are needed for the book, and how to change them.
Go to any store (I went to Walmart) and you'll find them in the hardware section. They are pretty cheap. You'll see link at the top from Amazon is only $1.99. You'll need a tiny screwdriver, the ones you use for glasses. Unscrew the compartment, switch out the battery, and ta-da! Brand new book!
I got a $16 book for $0.50. I bet someone threw it out because the batteries had died and they thought it was no good any more.
No my son has a super-cool, super-manly book that only cost me about $2.50!

Happy savings to you :)
